Henry Tonks, Richmond, Yorkshire
Henry Tonks (1862 - 1937) was Slade Professor of Art from 1918 to 1930 and was known as "the most renowned and formidable teacher of his generation." Much of his work is based around the figure (he was a surgeon before turning his hand to art). This is a relatively unsual and delightfully fluid example of his landscape painting.
Watercolour on paper. 14.25 x 9.5 inches. Provenance: Thomas Agnew and Sons
